A panoramic video project for the 2004 Olympics

A dynamic Canadian-British-Greek production company is looking for sponsors and investors for its latest and hottest project, "The Flight of the Javelin".

The benefits to sponsors and investors in addition to a speedy return on their investment within two years or less will afford them a highly visible attraction that is going to wash its own face over time and carry the sponsors' good name long after the 2004 Olympics.

"The Flight of the Javelin" -- Objectives

  • Produce a panoramic video film on 12 x 60 foot screen

  • Build a theatre with a seating capacity of 120-150 on an Olympic site in Athens

  • Co-production Canada/England/Greece

  • Offer Investment incentives according to the guidelines of the Hellenic and International Olympic Committees

  • Create a lasting tourist attraction and income before, during and after the Olympic Games

  • Create a profit situation for Athens and investors

  • Promote goodwill from the Greek community abroad and interested investors for Greece

  • Pride in the Greek heritage and culture

  • Celebrate the origin of the Olympic Games

Message from the Creative Director and architect of "The Flight of the Javelin"

"To be successful and profitable in the long term 'The Flight of the Javelin' must not only be successful during the run up to the Olympic games but also for many years after 2004. The project must become a critical part of Athens tourist offer. It must appeal to those visitors that come to Greece in search of its remarkable history as much as for those holidaymakers that so enjoy Greece's stunning scenery.

There are many ways that one can approach the making of this film. It will, at its heart, recall events that took place almost 4,000 years ago. A time when the Hellenic empire was at its height. A time when the ruins that are visible today were magnificent structures the like of which the world has not seen since. It is impractical to attempt to recreate such wonders. What we must do is to evoke the past through clever use of the media and in so doing recreate a past that is relevant today. We must excite and inspire our visitors with what remains rather than what has gone.

With a Hollywood budget we could recreate the wonders of Olympia but I believe this to be unnecessary. Far more important is the presentation of the place within the greater context of the Hellenic world. It is of course necessary to experience the power and grace of the athletes but I believe that this can be best and most economically addressed as if the athletes were ghosts in the arena where the games were originally held.

Every fourth year for a thousand years, from 776 BC to AD 395, the pageantry of the Olympics festival attracted citizens from all over the Greek world. The history of the Games is clouded in myth and may have been spasmodic in reality. It is believed that in the 9th century BC, when Greece was torn apart by civil wars and pestilence, that the then King requested that the games be restored and that a truce should be declared for the games duration. In order to spread the news of the Truce three heralds decked with olive leaves were sent out to every state of Greece to announce the games. Perhaps it is this act of unification; a spirit so closely linked with the modern Olympic ethic, that is the beginning of our film. Using spectacular aerial footage we trace the journey of the heralds and visually explore the wonderful scenery of Greece in all its many guises. We do not pretend that we are filming the past but rather we are celebrating the relevance of today and the continuation of the Greek civilisation. We do however, on our journey, visit the sites and recount the myths of the great God Heracles (Hercules) who is synonymous with the establishment of the original games.

Having completed the spectacular aerial journey we arrive in the valley of Olympia where the games took place. By the clever use of double exposure it will be possible to re- enact the games on the site of the original Olympics. As previously mentioned this will not be athletes competing on the original track but rather a powerful collage of athletic pursuit superimposed over the landscape of the original site. The competitors will be as Ghosts of the past whose spirits still reside in this most reverent of places. Superimposed with these ghosts would be the images of athletes that have survived. There is a considerable amount of visual information on ceramics of a very high level of accuracy.

As the segment on the original games ends so we take to the sky again and travel on in space and time. We visually explore the spectacular mountain scenery of the Peloponese with its many important sites such as Monavasia and Mystras. Across the Corinth Canal and into Athens. As our journey continues so our visitors learn of the efforts of Baron Pierre de Coubertin to revive the Games in 1896. Our visitors fly over the centre of Athens and land in the original Olympic stadium. Here again using specially shot footage and archive material we recall the athletic prowess of the first of the modern games.

As our finale we are airborne again and heading towards the new Olympic Stadium (if it is finished) We hear the Spirit of the Games and cut to an aerial shot of the approach to The Ancient shrine of Apollo at Delphi. We close on the image of the Original Olympic Rings Carved into the shrine."

Message from the Producer/Author

"The wonderful thing about this project, is that it can go on long after the Olympic Games as a tourist attraction. In addition it can be used in education. It is my hope that we will be fortunate enough to capture the interest of the investors. That, as well as the necessary permissions, the theatre can be up and running in a few months. The theatre is unique in that it is fully transportable and can be moved to other parts of the country. Therefore, it will not in any way interfere with the limited land area in Athens." -- Natasha Alexander MacKenzie, Producer/Author, "The Flight of The Javelin"

Project budget and further information

The production company was created solely for the production of "The Flight of the Javelin" whose members have collectively over 90 years experience in the area of film production, theatre and major events. In addition, the production company is bringing to Athens and the 2004 Olympic Games "The Flight of the Javelin," offering excellence and the best the world has to offer in the creation of this project.

The building that is required to show the film needs only be a simple structure and depending on the precise site and proximity to other buildings need not be a protracted exercise. Given the necessary funds to proceed, the production company could design and construct the building as per those guidelines as soon as possible to complete the project and follow through with a complete revenue stream summary, showing profits within 24 months.

It should be noted that this is the largest staged global event sponsored and watched by millions the revenues would most probably surface more quickly. Not to mention the pomp and circumstance surrounding the return of the Olympics to it's home - Athens. The gains are there as the audience and interest is already there. Other benefits include signage and exposure worldwide, with print and media coverage. Finally, the films can be changed from time to time after the Olympics and will continue to bring in profits.

It may be helpful to realise the expertise and experience behind the "The Flight of the Javelin" project. This panoramic format has been successfully presented for the Munich Olympics, and in Osaka. The most recent presentation was for HM Queen Elizabeth, The Fiords, for HM The King of Norway, and many others.

This is a turnkey operation with a proven success rate.
