Institute for the Study of the Greek Economy (IMEO) Established in 1982, the Institute for the Study of the Greek Economy (IMEO) is a scientific research institute dedicated to "the study of the Greek economy in its social and international framework." IMEO co-operates with many similar institutes in other countries, is a member of international scientific organisations, has been an adviser to international organisations, including the European Commission, and governments -- Greece, Germany, Russia, Albania, India, China, Egypt, etc. -- and has been involved in EU programmes as well as international research programmes. Parallel to this, IMEO has organised a series of special seminars and international conferences focusing on specialised issues related to the Greek and international economy. Furthermore, IMEO has undertaken a series of studies, essentially focusing on financial development, agriculture, the labour market, education, the evaluation of programmes, financial alliances, demography, regional development. Its research interest focuses on the geographical areas of the European Union, the Mediterranean, the Balkans and Asia, especially in the research of the finances of Russia and China. IMEO is currently promoting two major initiatives/priorities:
