Founded by Nicholas J. Theocarakis in 1924, the Theocarakis Group has been representing Japan's Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. in Greece ever since 1961. As well as distributing cars, light trucks and tires, which form an integral part of the Group's distribution activities, Theocarakis also represents and distributes: Nissan forklift trucks and industrial vehicles; Clarion car audio/visual systems; Daewoo and Beco household electrical appliances; Suzuki Marine outboard motors; Same, Deutz-Fahr and Universal farming tractors; Merlo concrete cement mixers; Sonnenschein car batteries; Cromoruote alloy wheels; Wynn's and Permatex specialty chemical products and lubricants and a number of other other products. The Theocarakis Group was one of the founders of Egnatia Bank SA, a medium-sized commercial bank that is listed on the Athens Exchange (ATHEX), and has been one of the Thessaloniki-based bank's major shareholders since 1991. Basil N. Theocarakis has served as Chairman of Egnatia Bank since 1993. Through Hellenic Casinos Company (HCC), the Theocarakis Group also has a participation in Hyatt Regency Hotels & Tourism (Hellas) SA (HRHT), another company listed on the ATHEX. On January 10, 2006, HCC, the majority shareholder of HRHT, announced it agreed to sell its 51.57% stake in HRHT to funds advised by BC Partners, a leading pan-European private equity firm, at a price of EUR 11.00 per share. The families owning HCC were Laskaridis, Pritzker and Theocarakis. Furthermore, in 1976, the Theocarakis Group founded Teo Shipping Corporation, a shipping company, which today operates a fleet of modern bulk carriers and containers.
